COLOREX O157 is a selective and chromogenic medium for enterohemorrhagic E. coli O157 for food samples, meat trimmings or animal fecal material.

COLOREX O157 is designed for simultaneous growth, observation and chromogenic differentiation of E. coli O157 from clinical or food specimens. This device makes preliminary detection easy by producing distinctive color differences between the growth ofE. coli O157 as well as other organisms within as little as 18-24 hours – all while inhibiting the growth of mold, fungi, and other bacteria.

A latex confirmation test for O157 is suggested for suspect colonies. Definite identification requires, in addition to characterization of O157 serotype, a final identification as E. coli.
